Arts of Fashion Competition

Taking inspiration from Jean Dubuffet's Art Brut and psychiatric practices of the 1930s such as electroshock, Being in a Coma creates an alternate dwelling, in which social roles are reversed and those marginalized, mad and renegade characters are exalted in this parallel universe as wise witnesses of a slavery based on intersubjective fables.

Layered among dyed, and in turn frayed, textiles, the aim is to embrace these "flawed and mad" characters like a suit of armor for camouflage. Laser cutting played a crucial role in the process, creating figures and topographic reliefs, which were then separated into groups to be dyed before being layered one on top of the other.

The final looks were named as finalists in the international Arts of Fashion Competition, and were presented at the Final Fashion Show in San Francisco, California.
